Des Moines Police are investigating an incident in which a black man was allegedly attacked by three white men. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM Saturday. The attack may have been racially motivated as police say one of the assailants made racist remarks during the attack. The victim is 22 year old Darquan Jones he was taken to a hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries to his face and hands. The victim reportedly did not know the attackers. According to police reports, 40 year old Tyia Campbell was at a friend’s apartment nearby and heard the commotion outside. Campbell said when she and her friends went outside they found the victim had been severely beaten. The attackers have not been located and no arrest have been made as of the time of this report. NAACP of Des Moines held a press conference Sunday Afternoon regarding the attack. Daryl Jones the victim’s father says he wants justice for his son. This assault came just days after a Des Moines city meeting that was held online was derailed by a cyber attack that contained racist, pornographic and explicit content. Authorities do not know if the two incidents are connected but are continuing to investigate both incidents.
