Dodger Baseball Advances In Playoffs, Multiple Area Softball Teams Play Monday For Chance At State

This weekend around area sports was certainly a busy one. It featured teams advancing in the playoffs and also set the course for several softball teams in the area to play for bids to state Monday Night.  Fort Dodge baseball opened the playoffs with a 4-0 win at home vs Ames on Friday Night. Senior Mason Bockoven threw a gem on the hill, complete game shutout, striking out 7 and scattering 5 hits. Dodgers got on the board in the 1st with a 2 out RBI single from Jace Ulrich. Dodgers would add another run in the 2nd thanks to Dylan Zimmerman

Zimmerman with a solo shot his first homer of the season. Dodgers scored twice in the 3rd after Tyler Schreier doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score and Nick Bice got on and eventually stole home. Dodgers are on the road tonight (Monday) taking on a ranked opponent in Sioux City East that was 17-5 in the regular season. East beat Sioux City West Friday 9-1 to advance. Fort Dodge Softball will be play for state tournament bid Tuesday night as they will host Sioux City North at Rogers Park for a 7 PM 1st pitch. That game will air Tuesday Night on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website. The “Red and Black Wolfpack” as Coach Andi Adams has nicknamed them will look to hunt down another trip to state.

Tonight (Monday) will see several area Softball teams play for a chance at state. In Class 1A 2nd ranked Newell-Fonda host Exira- EHK and Bishop Garrigan hosts Newman Catholic. In Class 2A Ogden plays host to East Marshall. In Class 3A , a one loss Algona Squad hosts undefeated Crestwood and Humboldt hosts MOC-Floyd Valley. Humboldt was upset prior to state last year’s so tonight would serve as a chance to erase that memory and forge some new ones. All those games are set to start at 7 PM and the winner of each will be in the 2020 Iowa State Softball Tournament here in Fort Dodge next week.
