Fort Dodge Football With “Measuring Stick” Game, SC Calhoun Hosts Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

Week 3 for area football programs is tonight and presents different perspectives. The Alpha Media-Fort Dodge family of stations has two games on your radio dial and internet live stream Friday night starting with pregame shows at 6:45 PM. On “92 Rock” Class 4A 10th ranked Fort Dodge Dodgers hosts #8 Ankeny. The Dodgers have a “measuring stick” game against what is sure to be the toughest test of their season thus far. Fort Dodge is 2-0 after wins over Ames and Sioux City East but Ankeny provides a higher caliber opponent than Fort Dodge has seen yet this season. The Hawks are 1-1 coming off a loss 21-17 to #6 Waukee in week 2. Ankeny brings in a balanced offense featuring University Of Iowa WR commit Brody Brecht, who has the total package at receiver he’s big at 6ft 4, 205 pounds, is sure handed and can run in the open field. The good news is that Arlan Bruce IV  another D-1 prospect and Iowa commit will not play against Fort Dodge. Bruce transferred to Ankeny from a school in Olathe, Kansas in August and has had issues gaining his eligibility. The IAHSAA met with Bruce’s attorneys Thursday and told them that they will make a ruling on his eligibility next week. The issues stem from questions the IAHSAA has concerning his residency in Ankeny. Documents from the meetings show that Bruce and his mother are living in Ankeny and that their lease agreement is for $100 a month, they are living in another family’s home. What has remained unclear is the relationship between the home owners, Bruce’s family and if their is a connection between the “host” family and Ankeny athletics? So the Dodgers won’t contend with Bruce in week 3 but Ankeny is still loaded with talent. Dodger Head Coach Nik Moser says that taking on Ankeny is a great opportunity for his team.

Fort Dodge RB “Downtown” Dayson Clayton has been spectacular in the first two games racking up over 670 rushing yards. He broke the single game school rushing yard record in the week 2 win vs Sioux City East with 354 yards, he had 4 rushing TD’s and a TD catch. Clayton ranks #1 in Iowa in Rushing Yards currently with over a 100 yards of separation between him and the 2nd leading rusher. He is tied for 2nd in Iowa with 9 Rushing TD’s. He eclipsed the 3,000 rushing yard mark in week 2, making him 4th on the career rushing yards list at Fort Dodge Senior High. He needs 117 yards to pass former Dodger Zach Mason for 3rd and around 420 yards to eclipse his brother Jontel Clayton for 2nd place all time. When asked if Clayton is the best RB in Iowa Coach Moser had this to say.

Can the Dodgers put the rest of Iowa on notice and take down a loaded Ankeny squad considered one of the Iowa’s elite teams? Find out tonight on “92 Rock” and here on our website pregame show at 6:45 and kickoff is set for 7 PM.

On 105-9 “The Beach” Class 1A’s #2 team South Central Calhoun looks to remain unbeaten on the season as they host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The Titans defense has allowed just 7 points in two weeks. SC Calhoun is coming off an impressive 34-7 win at Greene County in week 2. Titans Head Coach Brian Case credits their run defense as a major key to the unbeaten start.

It will be Senior Night for South Central Calhoun and Coach Case says the leadership of that group is paramount to the season’s success.

Join Mark Williamson and Brian Peters on the call of the game starting with the pregame show at 6:45 on 105-9 “The Beach” and here on our website.

You can catch a recap of those games and others from around the local area on the Saturday’s news starting at 6AM on any of the Alpha Media Fort Dodge stations.
