A group of citizens who are disgruntled over animal control issues in Fort Dodge have banded together. Around 1,500 people have signed a petition demanding better animal control resources. Currently, the City Of Fort Dodge contracts animal control out to Webster County. One of the major complaints that’s been cited has been response time. With a coverage area as large as the entire Webster County area, the response time can take hours. The Fort Dodge City Council discussed the issues with animal control at their budget workshop Monday. The council discussed finding a way to increase allocated funding for animal control by about $17,000. One petitioner that spoke to me (Rob Jones) under the condition of anonymity, said they feel  “the city is paying for a service that we are not getting”.
