To say, Iowa Central Softball has been on a hot streak lately is an understatement of massive proportions. The Tritons have won 11 straight and 12 of their last 13. Iowa Central is scheduled to host Iowa Lakes in a double header Wednesday, before they go on a 6 game road swing.
Iowa Central is coming off a four game sweep of Southeastern. The Tritons took both games of Monday’s double header, as their explosive offensive led the way. The Tritons scored 37 runs in the two games. Iowa Central took game 1, 21-8 and game two 16-12.
In the opener, the Tritons scored all 21 of their runs in the 1st 3 innings. Getting 2 in the 1st, 7 in the second and 12 in the 3rd. Seven Tritons had two hits or more. Abbie Thilges was 4 for 5, with a home run and 3 RBI’s. Laila Pelds had 3 hits, including a homer and drove in 6.
In the seconds game, Southeastern led 6-4 until Iowa Central put up a 7 spot in the 5th. Tritons then led 11-6, Southeastern rallied to score 6 in the top of the 6th and led 12-11. Iowa Central answered with 5 in their half of the 6th. They would shutdown Southeastern in the 7th to win it, 16-12. Thilges had three hits in the nightcap, two were for extra bases. Abby Wilson had 3 hits and drove in 5. Emily English came on in relief and got the win in the circle.
Iowa Central remains unbeaten in conference place and currently sits in 1st place in the conference.
