Last week Iowa Central Community College and Iowa Prison Industries in cooperation with several area organizations launched a volunteer project to sew gowns for healthcare workers around Iowa. The Fort Dodge Prison has the capacity to cut enough components for 1,500 gowns each day but can’t sew that many, so they are asking for local volunteers to help. Iowa Central President Dr. Dan Kinney says that they have seen some drop off in the number of volunteers after the initial launch.
Here’s Iowa Central Vice President Jim Kersten with the latest update on the numbers.
Due to the drop in volunteers Iowa Central is changing the days on for pick up of components and drop off of completed gowns. This week they will have pick up and drop Thursday and Friday 9 AM- 12 PM but will not have it Saturday. Next week they will have pick up and drop off Monday,Wednesday, and Friday from 9 AM- 12 PM. Iowa Central asks that all who can lend a hand.
