Local High School Basketball Review From Dec. 17th
Tuesday night saw both schools that call home to Fort Dodge in action. On “Snowy” 99.7 FM The St Edm0nd Gaels were in action at home vs Algona. In the girls game Algona cruised to a victory 60-23. Algona outscored St. Edmond 27-7 in the 2nd quarter to pull away. In the boys game, St. Edmond hung tough with Algona and led the Bulldogs 19-17 at the half. Algona would outscore them 29-21 in the 2nd half in route to a 46-40 win. St. Edmond is back in action Friday night hosting Clear Lake.
The Fort Dodge girls team had their best offensive performance of the year as they cruised 87-56 past Des Moines- Hoover. Dodger Sophomore guard Tory Bennett had a career high and set a modern era school record with 37 points. Bennett was 5 for 5 from 3 point range on the night and 14 of 17 from the field. The Dodgers started strong building a 28-9 lead after the 1st. The Dodgers would put Hoover away in the 2nd half outscoring them 44-27 after the break. Bennett had 20 in the 1st half and had this play during a Dodger run in their 25 point 3rd quarter.
The Dodgers were good in transition all night and when Bennett wasn’t scoring she got her teammates involved. Sophomore Aleaha Pommer was also in double figures adding 14 as was Cheyenne Miller-Hameed with 10. For Des Moines Hoover Adrianna Jarrett led the way with 23 and Daija Bates added 14.
The Dodger boys fell in a defensive slug fest 33-29. The Dodgers were unable to get going offensively scoring just 14 in the 1st half and 15 in the 2nd. Des Moines- Hoover outscored them 12-7 in the 4th to come out with the win. Hoover’s Chase Henderson led all scorers with 13. The Dodgers were led by Ty Kershaw with 11. The Dodgers are back in action Friday night on the road taking on Marshalltown.
