Newell-Fonda’s Football Season Concludes at 8-2 After 3rd Round Loss

With a loss last Friday in the round of 16 the season for Newell-Fonda Football comes to a close. The Mustangs concluded their season at 8-2. Their final loss came at undefeated Audubon, in a game that Newell-Fonda trailed by just one possession at the half. Audubon would score twice in the 3rd quarter to pull away and win 28-6.

Newell-Fonda averaged over 200 yards rushing per game in a run first offense that featured 5 different players with over 200 yards rushing and at least 3 TD’s on the ground. The Mustangs were ranked 7th in the final regular season poll and spent most of the season ranked in the top 10.

The loss to Audubon marks the final game in a Mustangs uniform for dual threat QB Gabe Sievers who led them in rushing yards and TD’s, two way standout Hunter Christiansen who had 8 rushing TD’s and was their leading tackler, Jake Demey and Garret Meyer who tied for the team lead in sacks and tackler for loss and several other key contributing Seniors. Newell-Fonda’s two losses are two Remsen St. Mary’s and Audubon who are both unbeaten and have been ranked in the top 3 most of the season, those two teams play Friday for a trip to the UNI Dome.
