The grave of an Iowa Civil War veteran now has a headstone. 110 years after his death, Frederick Wagner’s final resting place has now been marked.
Wagner was born in France but lived the majority of his life in Iowa. He served in the Civil War in the Iowa Infantry. He’s buried at Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines.
A man named Mike Rowley led the effort to procure and install the headstone. Rowley says, there are hundreds of veterans like Wagner with unmarked graves. Rowley says he hopes his efforts can rectify that, one veteran at a time.
