Two Iowa Teams To Square Off In NAIA National Semifinals This Weekend

Two teams from Iowa will square off this weekend in the NAIA National Semifinals. Perennial powerhouse Morningside will host Northwestern Saturday. The winner will play for the National Title on May 10th at Eddie Robinson Satdium in Ruston, Louisiana.

Northwestern advanced after they knocked off #2 Grandview 27-24 on the road last weekend. They got a 21 yard FG with just over a minute left to take the lead. Northwestern went 83 yards in 5 plays, on what proved to be the game winning drive. QB Tyson Kooima leads the Northwestern offensive charge. He went 24 of 34 for 379 yards and two TD passes. In the Semifinals, they trailed Grandview 14-0 in the 2nd Qtr before outscoring them 27-10 the rest of the way.

Morningside is undefeated on the season and the defending National Champions. They didn’t have much trouble in the Semifinals, they downed Baker, Kansas 45-29. Morningside did trail 14-9 after the 1st and 21-9 in the 2nd quarter. However, Morningside owned the 2nd half outscoring 36-8 after the break.

The winner of the Northwestern vs Morningside will take on the winner of Keiser (FL) and Lindsey Wilson (KY) in the National Title Game.
