The Fort Dodge School Board member who came under fire after racially insensitive comments has resigned. Matt Wagner’s resignation was accepted by the Fort Dodge Community School Board at their meeting Monday night. Wagner drew backlash from several members of the community after a social media post late last week. AFES Director Charles Clayton was outspoken about his issues with Wagner’s comments over the weekend and call for Wagner to no longer to be a member of the board. The Fort Dodge Community School District released a statement Monday Night announcing their intent to fill the vacancy left by Wagner’s resignation. The board’s intent is to appointment someone to fill the vacancy unless petitioned otherwise.  The statement says “eligible electors of the District have the right t file a petition requiring that this vacancy be filled by special election. Petitions must be received by the board’s secretary within 14 days. ” Those interested in being a member need to contact Superintendent Dr. Jesse Ulrich or Board President Stu Cochrane.
