Week 7 Report: Gaels & Titans Both Cruise, Jags Win To Clinch District Title
The regular season of high school football went out with a bang on Friday Night. On 105.9 “The Beach” South Central Calhoun fell behind early but got going after that and cruised past Belmond-Klemme. They would rack up over 400 yards in total offense and allow less than 250. The Titans had their ground game rolling as Blake Mcalister would run for 3 scores. Brennan Holder had 104 on the ground and 2 TD’s. The Titans showed no signs of being out of sync after having the week off in week 6.
In a game heard on “Sunny” 99.7 , St. Edmond had a dominant performance in a lopsided win 62-14 over Bishop Garrigan. The Gaels racked over 400 total yards and were +3 in turnover margin on the night. RB Kase Baker was the difference maker early in the game scoring on the 1st two St. Edmond drives on TD runs of 64 and 50 yards. The Gaels would score 5 times in the 1st half as they would get a TD run from QB Drew Schaeffer and Two TD passes from him in the 1st half. Schaeffer would Anthony Lacina for a long TD strike of 58 yards and Parker Oswald would make a “highlight reel” catch for a 25 yard TD pass. Gaels would give up a long TD drive right before the half and they led 35-14 at the break. Baker delivered the “back breaker” on the opening kick of the 2nd half returning it 80 yards for a score. Parker Oswald would add an acrobatic catch for an interception and take it 65 yards for a pick 6. Sean Flattery had a 22 yard TD catch in the 3rd quarter as well as the St. Edmond lead swelled to 56-14 after 3. They would score once more in the game and have the extra point blocked.
Southeast Valley would get by Pocahontas Area in a 4 quarter battle 26-20. Jags trailed 13-12 at the half but would score in the 3rd to go up 20-13. Pocahontas Area would answer to tie at 20 and it would stay that way until late in the 4th. Jags got a big punt return from Carl Berglund to set them up in Pocahontas territory and they would get the go ahead score on TD run from QB Kolson Kruse. Jags failed on the 2 point try and led 26-20. Kaleb Scott would make a play late when intercepted a Pocahontas Area pass that sealed the win for Southeast Valley. With that win, Southeast Valley moves to 7-0 and they win the District Title. They also will get a 1st round bye in the playoffs and a home game Oct. 23rd. Humboldt fell in a heart breaker 31-28 to Gilbert on a late FG. Humboldt still finishes with a winning regular season it’s first under 3rd year Head Coach Derrick Elman.
East Sac County rolled past MVAOCOU 65-0.
Algona no issues with Okoboji 57-21. Coach Andy Jacobson’s squad has overcome a slow start to the season and has momentum going into the playoffs.
Webster City capped off an unbeaten regular season by rolling up Boone 69-14.
Newell-Fonda cruised 55-6 over GTRA.
Greene County no trouble they win 42-6 over Shenandoah.
South Hamilton finishes the regular season undefeated after handling Aplington-Parkersburg 40-14.
Manson NW Webster ran into a “buzzsaw” in defending state champs West Hancock and fell 48-0.
Emmetsburg was upset 10-7 by Western Christian. 1st loss of the season for Emmetsburg.
