Weekend Softball/Baseball Report: Fort Dodge & St. Edmond Softball Both Get Two, Gael Baseball Splits AT CYO
Fort Dodge Softball got a pair of wins over ranked opponents in West Des Moines on Saturday. The Dodgers routed defending 4A State Champs Winterset, 14-2. Fort Dode got 7 in the 3rd and 6 in the 3rd, to break the game open. Left Fielder , Chloe Wertz had three hits in game one. 8th grade phenom, Mariah Myers had a home run and drove in five. Jalen Adams, the winning pitcher going four innings allowing just two runs.
Dodgers beat Johnston 3-1 in game two, Fort Dodge scored two in the first and one in the 2nd. 8th grade Pitcher, Lucy Porter the story in game two. Porter worked 5+ innings and allowed just one run to a ranked Johnston squad. Junior Shortstop, Tory Bennett had two hits, drove in a run and had a stolen base. Mariah Myers now has 19 RBI’s on the season, which ranks in the top 10 in all of Iowa. eith the win, Fort Dodge takes out of three with Johnston this season. Dodgers are now 8-3, they are back at it Monday night for a road double header at Ankeny.
St. Edmond Softball swept their two games Saturday at the CYO in Carroll. They blanked St. Albert in the first game 3-0. Ella Vratny shut St. Albert down, she threw a complete game shutout allowing just three hits. The game was scoreless through 3 innings. St. Edmond got three in the 4th and that was all they would need.
The second game featured more offense, as St. Edmond downed Bishop Garrigan 8-5. St. Edmond trailed 1-0after two, they got three in the top of the 3rd. Garrigan answered with two in the bottom of the 3rd. St. Edmond rallied for 5 in the 5th and allowed just two the rest of the way. Five different Gaels had multiple hits in game two. Kacey Kruthoff and Alyson Nieland were named to the CYO All Tournament Team. Gaels are now 4-3 on the season.
St. Edmond Baseball split a pair of games at the CYO on Saturday. Gaels won a 7-6 thrill ride over Gehlen Cathlic. St. Edmond came from behind after being down 5-3 after the first. Gaels got two in the 2nd, Gahlen added one in the 4th. St. Edmond got one in the 5th, to tie it at 6. They would score in the top of the 7th and hold in the bottom of the 7th to win it. For St. Edmond, Hayden Derrig had three hits and Jon Nemmers had two hits and drove in four. Tyler Mcdowell went the distance and got the win on the hill.
St. Edmond would fall to Bishop Gaiigan in the second game, 17-2. Garrigan got three in the 1st, five in the 2nd and 8 in the 3rd. St. Edmond is back at it Monday night hosting Clear Lake. You can hear the game, a &;30 Pm 1st pitch on “Sunny” 99.7 and here on our website.
