Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram Shot and Killed While on Duty Wednesday Night
The name of the officer shot and killed in Algona last night has officially been released.
Steve Baines Commission of the Iowa Department of Public Safety led off a press conference this morning speaking the name of that officer, Kevin Cram.
33 year old Algona Police Officer Kevin Cram was on patrol duty at 7:53 pm Wednesday when he was made aware of an active arrest warrant for 43 year old Kyle Ricke.
Officer Cram was in the 1100 block of Minnesota Street when he saw Ricke. He advised him that he would be put under arrest, it’s then that officials say Ricke shot Officer Cram. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Ricke has been charged with one count of 1st Degree Murder.
Officer Cram leaves behind a legacy of good that includes his family, friends and the entire community he served.
He was a ten year veteran of the law enforcement community. He began with service in Nora Springs and has served Algona since 2015.
