Fort Dodge Police Have Determined Non Credible Threat Made to School on Wednesday Came From Outside the US
Law enforcement worked together on Wednesday in conjunction with the Fort Dodge Community School District after a threat was made via social media to the Fort Dodge Middle School.
According to school superintendent, Josh Porter, students were released from school immediately and the threat was deemed non credible after officials from the FDPD, Webster County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol conducted a sweep of the building.
Since that time, the Fort Dodge Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has been following up on any and all leads pertaining to this case. The preliminary information that has been gathered thus far indicates that this appears to be what has been termed “swatting”. Swatting “is the deliberate and malicious act of reporting a false crime or emergency to evoke an aggressive response from law enforcement.”
It has also been determined that the threat originated from outside of the U.S.
