Remembering Ray Brown and Brownies Cafe

(Alpha Media- Brooke Bickford) The mere mention of cinnamon rolls from Brownies Cafe may bring back some memories to many in our area. Or maybe another food comes to mind. Or maybe it was simply Ray Brown’s smile that lit up the Fort Dodge establishment for nearly 50 years.

Brownie’s Cafe closed its doors in August of 2021, a business that was started by Ray’s folks and one he took over in 1974.

Nancy Brown worked at Brownie’s Cafe with Ray for 37 years and although they have the same last name, they were not related by blood but they definitely became family.

Nancy Brown said after Ray closed the place it was very tough:

Ray Brown died in March at the age of 70 and since that time those who knew him best want to make sure his legacy in Fort Dodge is not forgotten.

One thing is certain, Ray Brown and the folks at Brownies Cafe can be remembered for decades of delicious food, friendships and a family atmosphere that many times came with one of his cinnamon rolls on the side.
