High School football season got started in the area last Friday with week 1 action. Several area teams had impressive season debuts in week 1. Friday September 7th marks week 2 for the season and Alpha Media Fort Dodge has a slate of 4 games that can be heard across it’s platform of stations. St. Edmond will have their home opener at Dodge Stadium as they host North Union. The Gaels are coming off a tough opening game loss to Panorama 25-0 in a game where the Gaels couldn’t get going offensively. The Gaels had chances in the “red zone” but were unable to put any points on the board. They look to bounce back in week 2, The Gaels won at North Union last year 18-12. That game will air on “Sunny” 99.7 and online at www.yourfortdodge.com  Friday a 6:45 PM pregame with a 7 PM kick, Greg Woods will be on the call of that game.

The Fort Dodgers opened the 2019 campaign in impressive fashion dismantling Mason City 65-0. The Dodgers were opportunistic against the Mohawks forcing 5 turnovers and scoring 36 points off those turnovers. Dodger Head Coach Matt Miller improved his record against Mason City to 16-0 and picked up his 70th win moving to second on the list for all time wins in school history. The Dodgers are at Ames this week for their 1st road test of 2019. You can hear Rob Jones on the call of that one on 92.1 FM and online at www.yourfortdodge.com . The game is scheduled for a 6:45 PM Pregame and 7 PM kick off.

The South Central Calhoun Titans opened their season cruising to a victory at East Sac County 44-0 last week. Titans Head Coach Bryan Case picked up his 150th career win. The Titans face a tough test as they have their home opener hosting Carroll-Kuemper for a 7 PM kick off. Hear veteran area sportscasters Mark Williamson and Brian Peters call that one 105.9 FM “The Beach” , pregame show starts at 6:45 PM.

In the “Central Iowa Area Showcase Game” on “Mix” 94.5 which is a brand new broadcast that Alpha Media launched this year Manson- Northwest Webster hosts Panorama. Manson- Northwest Webster defeated Ogden last week 8-6 with a strong defensive effort. That game is a 6:45 PM pregame, 7 PM kick off. Join Dan Johnson as he brings you all the action.

Elsewhere around the area, Southeast Valley is at Pocahontas. Southeast Valley won last week 27-6 over Hampton-Dumont-Cal in the inaugural “Central Iowa Area Showcase Game ” on “Mix” 94.5. Pocahontas comes in 1-0 after a 20-2 win over Sioux Central in week 1. Webster City is at Spencer, Webster City is coming off a win over Gilbert 33-20. Humboldt hosts Garner- Hayfield-Ventura, the Wildcats look to rebound a loss last week to Algona. East Sac County hosts Battle Creek- Ida as East Sac tries to get in the win clumn after a tough time in the opener against a strong South Central Calhoun team. Eagle Grove is at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows as both those teams are coming off a loss in their respective openers. Eagle Grove fell to Belmond-Klemme 40-20 and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows lost 39-6 to Roland-Story.
